"UW regents to make first visit to Parkside since 1999," Racine Journal Times, March 6.

The UW System Board of Regents will hold its full meeting this month at UW-Parkside, the first time such a meeting has taken place on that campus since 1999; among other agenda items, the regents will discuss UW-Parkside's Master Plan, which includes more than $100 million in building projects.

Salary information for staff in the UW System is still available to the public upon request, but has been removed from an online database amid concerns that publishing such information has enabled competitors to hire away UW faculty.

A column applauding efforts by the UW System to increase student access by considering both academic and nonacademic criteria when making admissions decisions.

On Campus

"UW-Waukesha already acting as a university center, supporters say," Waukesha Freeman, March 7.

Establishing a university center at UW-Waukesha will allow institutions from across the country to offer education at the college, while still enabling it to continue to offer its current services.

"UW-L names interim provost," La Crosse Tribune, March 7.

UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow called Bill Colclough the obvious top choice for interim provost; Colclough, dean of the campus's College of Business Administration, has been at UW-La Crosse since 1980 and will replace Elizabeth Hitch in June.

"Stout may be state's 1st tech," Badger Herald, March 7.

The branding of UW-Stout as a polytechnic institution would raise the visibility of the campus, generate external funding through grant money and raise the value of graduates' diplomas.

An editorial addressing public discussion that followed alleged comments made in a UW-Madison law class; the course's professor has since issued a statement explaining his account.

"Food goes to waste," Stevens Point Journal, March 7.

UW-Stevens Point administrators and student leaders are encouraging students to be mindful of the amount of food that goes to waste after being purchased and then not eaten by patrons of the DeBot Dining Center; officials estimate about 500 lbs. of food is thrown away each day.

National

"State students lobby against rising cost of college," Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, March 7.

Students from across the UW System gathered in Washington D.C. to lobby for better education funding, namely through increased Pell Grant funding and the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
