Ody Fish, a member of the UW System Board of Regents for 17 years and a strong influence in Wisconsin politics, died at the age of 81.

Support for UW-Milwaukee and other area higher education institutions as they improve engineering education, which will help southeastern Wisconsin remain economically competitive.

State

"Doyle wants increase in student financial aid," Wisconsin State Journal, Feb. 7.

Gov. Jim Doyle will propose a 21 percent increase in student financial aid, part of which will be used to ensure aid is available in the future to students who sign the proposed Wisconsin Covenant.

"State employee sick leave is necessary recruiting tool to offset salary inequity," Column, Oshkosh Northwestern, Feb. 6.

A UW-Platteville professor says public-sector sick leave policies are crucial to recruiting and retaining talented employees from the private sector, where annual salaries generally exceed those of public-sector workers.
