The activities of UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and staff return $378 million each year to Portage, Wood and Marathon Counties; the campus has also created 5,700 jobs in Central Wisconsin.

"Rockwell, UWM finally teaming up," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Jan. 23.

UW-Milwaukee will receive a $1 million grant from a Milwaukee-area industrial-automation firm in an effort to bolster the region's manufacturing industry.

"Certain fees for stem cells waived," Wisconsin State Journal, Jan. 23.

The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation is making research easier at other universities by waiving licensing and other fees for noncommercial stem-cell research.

"Tuition may rise at Grainger," Badger Herald, Jan. 23.

To remain competitive among colleges and universities nationwide, particularly in faculty retention, the UW-Madison School of Business will request differential tuition for students in the program; the Board of Regents are expected to consider the proposal in March.

"UWSP mourns student killed in La Crosse," Stevens Point Journal, Jan. 23.

UW-Stevens Point is remembering Danielle Gorectke, a student who was allegedly murdered in La Crosse over the weekend; Gorectke was a senior and a communicative disorders major at the campus.

An editorial urging Congress to pass Wisconsin Rep. Tom Petri's proposed Student Aid Reward Act, which could direct more tax dollars directly to financial aid for college students.

Business leaders from around the nation urge education officials to ensure high school graduates are academically equipped for college, and can succeed in the workforce later in life.
