UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley said he supports the use of admissions policies that examine nonacademic factors because high school grade-point averages, class rankings and ACT scores are not sufficient indicators of how a particular student will perform in college.

"Bill to fund stem cell research clears House," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Jan. 12.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would lift funding restrictions on stem-cell lines; the House did not, however, attain sufficient votes to override an almost certain Presidential veto.
