Faculty at UW-Barron County are among those in the UW System researching how to improve classroom instruction and student performance.

"Couple's $100,000 gift to aid UWFV's campus, students," Appleton Post-Crescent, Jan. 8.

Two returning-adult alumni of UW-Fox Valley have donated $100,000 to benefit campus facilities, scholarships and the political science department.

"Prep course aims to help Hmong students on ACT," La Crosse Tribune, Jan. 8.

Hmong students and their parents will have an opportunity to prepare for college admissions and entrance exams through a UW-Extension funded program.

State

Gov. Jim Doyle will soon have to outline how he intends for the state to pay for new initiatives like the Wisconsin Covenant, increased university research, and efforts to keep tuition affordable.

The state needs economic development leaders and investors who can continue to translate academic research from UW campuses to the marketplace.

National

"U falls behind in research dollars," St. Paul Pioneer Press, Jan. 8.

The University of Minnesota says it has dropped behind UW-Madison in terms of spending on university research.
