"UW System president says state must hold on to college grads," Stevens Point Journal, Dec. 13.

Speaking in Stevens Point, UW System President Kevin Reilly promoted the university's Growth Agenda for Wisconsin, which aims to increase the number of college graduates in Wisconsin and expand knowledge-economy job opportunities.

"Free-tuition idea to be examined," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dec. 13.

A study group formed by UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson recommended exploring an idea that would allow students to attend a UW campus without paying tuition, provided they remain in-state for a fixed amount of time after graduation.

"Bold tuition idea is bad idea for state," Editorial, Appleton Post-Crescent, Dec. 13.

An editorial applauding the bold thinking behind an idea to eliminate tuition costs for students who stay in Wisconsin after graduation, but adding it is unreasonable to expect high school graduates to plan the next 14 years of their lives.

UW-Madison administrator Paul Barrows, who has been the subject of controversy in recent months, announced his retirement from the campus.

Community service projects, like UW-Marathon County's involvement in the Salvation Army's Angel Giving Tree program, allows students to take ownership of their community.

State

"The power of education," Editorial, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dec. 13.

A plan for economic development in southeastern Wisconsin must include an increase in funding for UW-Milwaukee and more collaboration between the cities of Madison and Milwaukee.
