A project that aims to revitalize neighborhoods is using plans drawn by UW-Milwaukee architecture students for single-family houses in Milwaukee and Racine.

Students in interior design and merchandising put their growing expertise to work in researching what parents and kids want in new playgrounds.

UW-Eau Claire officials said if the campus still wants to serve meals and house programs in its student center, the building must be renovated.

The Board of Regents has proposed salary increases for faculty and unclassified staff in an effort to retain high-quality teachers and researchers.

This editorial lauds incoming UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow for donating a farewell bonus back to Nebraska Wesleyan University to help install sprinkler systems in fraternity houses.

Toward improving UW-Oshkosh's campus climate, Chancellor Richard Wells announced all campus leaders will undergo tolerance training next year.

As a greater number of students opt to study abroad during their undergraduate years, more are choosing countries outside Western Europe, a marked change from years past.

To highlight the presence of UW-Marathon County, the institution's foundation has asked the city to rename a stretch of road near the college.

State

"Income gap widens; Madison's median pay tops Milwaukee's by 80%," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dec. 12.

A Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce official said a new report showing an increasing disparity in median family incomes in Madison and Milwaukee should lend support for the expansion of UW-Milwaukee's research capacity.

National

UW-Rock County offered courses at Janesville's General Motors plant for years, making it easier for the college to reach GM employees who were being forced out of their jobs.
