"UW regents delay action on admissions," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dec. 8.

Regent Danae Davis said the Board of Regents should hold off voting on revised UW System admissions policies until the university has a chance to educate the public about what the changes would entail; whatever changes are made, academic achievement will still be a strong determining factor in a student's admission to a UW System institution.

The creation of a school of public health in Milwaukee could help address serious health problems among its citizens; the cost to build the school, according to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, could mostly be covered by private donations.

A commission studying the future of the UW Colleges may recommend that the state pay all tuition costs for students who agree to live and work in Wisconsin for 10 years after graduation.

A column urging state legislators to remember how UW-Extension serves the entire state when they decide on the program's budget in the coming months.

On Campus

"UWM receives $2 million," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dec. 9.

As UW-Milwaukee expands its research capacity, area businesses are providing financial resources to further the effort; Harley-Davidson Inc. and the Wisconsin Energy Corp. each gave the campus $1 million grants to help establish the UWM Research Foundation.
