"UW leaders giddy over Tuesday's election results," Associated Press, Nov. 9.

The university's goals to increase access to higher education and capitalize on the economic-development potential within the UW System is gaining support from Wisconsin citizens, UW System Board of Regents President David Walsh said Friday.

Under new leadership, the state Senate is expected to address the appointments of 10 Regents who have been serving without Senate confirmation.

The UW System wants to be able to offer competitive salaries to lessen the possibility that top faculty and staff will leave Wisconsin for other institutions.

Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary and UW System President Kevin P. Reilly said they will work together to gain state support for the new Wisconsin GI Bill.

The Board of Regents honored teachers from UW-Eau Claire, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Oshkosh with this year's Teaching Excellence Awards.

UW System President Kevin Reilly said newly confirmed UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow will bring the experience needed to run a campus.

UW-Madison's student-organization funding policies are in place to ensure groups are controlled by students and that funding is distributed to organizations in a lawful manner.

The Board of Regents' Business, Finance and Audit Committee asked UW System officials to recommend how the university can better monitor system-wide information technology projects.

During its annual trust funds investment forum, the Board of Regents heard reasons for and against divesting from companies that do business in Israel.

On Campus

"University pays tribute to student soldiers, vets," Green Bay Press-Gazette, Nov. 9.

In commemoration of Veteran's Day, UW-Green Bay paid tribute to its own student soldiers and veterans.

Work on a multi-million dollar upgrade to UW-Whitewater's athletic facilities is scheduled to begin by fall 2007.

"Campus men join women in violence prevention project," Dunn County News, Nov. 8.

A $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice/Office on Violence Against Women will help UW-Stout's Campus Violence Prevention Project support campus men who join an effort to reduce violence against women.

"UW-Stout leader remembered for his work, humor," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Nov. 9.

Colleagues of ex-UW-Stout administrator Robert Sedlak shared memories of the former provost and vice chancellor for academic and student affairs, who passed away last week.

"Darwin evolved," Capital Times, Nov. 9.

UW-Madison Molecular Biology Professor Sean Carroll is gaining national attention for his studies on the theory of evolution.

"UW-EC students bringing jazz music to China," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Nov. 11.

Robert Baca, UW-Eau Claire director of jazz studies, said he will use a trip to China to teach five student musicians about the culture and music of other areas.

"Lecturer says taxes go to kill U.S. troops," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Nov. 11.

Students gave mixed reactions to the much-anticipated 9/11 section of UW-Madison lecturer Kevin Barrett's course.

The United Council of UW Students reported student voter turnout increasing by up to 66 percent from 2002 on UW System campuses.
