The State Elections Board projected that half of eligible Wisconsin voters will participate in today's elections.

Forty volunteers from UW-Stevens Point student organizations who were deputized by the city clerk have registered more than 1,500 students to vote.

At his inauguration as Chancellor at UW-Eau Claire, Brian Levin-Stankevich said the university can remain connected to Wisconsin citizens by being dynamic and creative in solving challenges facing higher education.

UW-Madison is not likely to grow its student body, but Chancellor John Wiley said more students are encouraged to enroll at the campus in upper-level courses; Wiley also addressed the ballot referendum on marriage, and faculty criticized a policy that would require background checks for potential employees.

Following the recent drowning of a UW-La Crosse student in the Mississippi River, UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich wanted to ensure the safety of the area around the Chippewa River near UWEC; students and staff did not find major problems, but suggested additional fencing as a precaution.

More than half of new UW-Waukesha freshmen who took placement tests scored below college level in math; across the UW System, about 15 percent of students in fall 2004 needed remedial math instruction, up 3 percentage points from three years ago.

Outagamie County approved $5.3 million for a new communications building at UW-Fox Valley; Winnebago County will also be asked to contribute the same amount to the project.
