"UW System rings in 35 years," Badger Herald, Oct. 12.

The merger 35 years ago between the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State Universities to create the UW System strengthened higher education in the state and made university operations more efficient.

"Let's talk facts in debate over UW tuition, access," Column, Capital Times, Oct. 12.

UW-Stout Chancellor Charles Sorensen writes in to promote the "top-shelf education" offered at that campus.

"Regents right to oppose amendment," Editorial, Daily Cardinal, Oct. 12.

An editorial in strong support of a recently passed Board of Regents resolution that formally opposes an upcoming Wisconsin ballot referendum; the initiative in question, the editorial says, will further hinder UW-Madison's ability to provide needed benefits to employees.

"UW System Board of Regents convenes meetings at UW-P," Platteville Journal, Oct. 11.

UW-Platteville Chancellor David Markee said he was pleased to welcome the Board of Regents to his campus and that Regents were able to interact with so many people integral to the success of that campus and of the Platteville area as a whole.

"UW joining Google book project," Wisconsin State Journal, Oct. 12.

Google and UW-Madison are teaming up for Google's Book Search project, through which Google will digitize hundreds of thousands of volumes at UW-Madison's libraries and the Wisconsin Historical Society and make them searchable on the Internet.

UW-Milwaukee student Joe Munz was shot after making a sandwich delivery; friends and family remember Munz as a likable guy.

"UW-Oshkosh endeavor possible," Oshkosh Northwestern, Oct. 12.

The city of Berlin, Wis. is considering an offer from the UW-Oshkosh Center for Community Partnership to assist in the marketing and development of Berlin's North Business Park.

"UWSP staff forms gay-straight alliance," Stevens Point Journal, Oct. 12.

Organizers of UW-Stevens Point's Faculty and Staff Gay-Straight Alliance said the UW System's Inclusivity Initiative, designed to promote a campus climate welcoming to members of the LGBT community, encouraged that and other campuses to form such organizations.

"UW System may force new employees to get background checks," Exponent, Oct. 4.

A proposed background check policy for all new university hires is being considered as an effort to ensure safety and security on UW System campuses; UW-Platteville faculty representatives expressed concern that such a policy will scare away potential candidates.

"Chancellor holds first roundtable," Spectator, Oct. 12.

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich said he hopes for continued student participation in his roundtable discussions, emphasizing the need for interaction between students and administrators.

"UWRF to break ground on Dairy Learning Center," Wisconsin Ag Connection, Oct. 12.

UW-River Falls announced it will soon begin construction of the Dairy Learning Center, a comprehensive center designed to enhance the campus's dairy students' proficiency in their field.

"Vet tech program added to UWRF," Wisconsin Ag Connection, Oct. 12.

The recently announced veterinary technology program at UW-River Falls will enable students who want to work with animals to do so without taking the full veterinary route.
