"Regents oppose marriage vote," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Oct. 7.
Calling it "the right thing to do," the UW System Board of Regents voted Friday to formally oppose an upcoming Wisconsin ballot referendum on marriage because they said it could tie the hands of future Boards of Regents when it comes to policy-setting, including the ability to offer domestic partner benefits.

Regent Gerard Randall requested a review of coaching contracts related to the academic performance of the UW System's student-athletes, particularly in light of similar efforts by the NCAA.

UW-La Crosse wants to use additional revenue to grow enrollment, add faculty and staff, and maintain its scholastic quality without using more state dollars.

A La Crosse County medical examiner said deceased UW-La Crosse student Luke Homan's blood-alcohol level was 0.32 at the time of his drowning.
