UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Carlos Santiago said the campus will spend its 50th year reflecting on past successes and planning for the future, one that includes an expanded research capacity.

"UWO freshmen start college life," Oshkosh Northwestern, Sept. 4.

First-year students at UW System campuses are preparing for the next phase of their lives.

National media are taking note of a UW graduate's work, which connects student artists with children in orphanages around the world.

UW-Madison lecturer Kevin Barrett, the subject of much controversy over some of his political views, will speak at UW-Oshkosh as part of a program on academic freedom.

"Campus's economic impact on area put at $7 million," Richland Observer, Aug. 24.

A long-term analysis found that direct and indirect spending related to UW-Richland has had a positive economic impact on its local county.

State

"A new partnership along I-94," Editorial, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Sept. 3.

Greater collaboration between Madison and Milwaukee, as well as an increased research capacity at UW-Milwaukee, would bode well for Wisconsin's economic well-being.

"Donley has growth plans for stem cell bank," Wisconsin Technology Network, Sept. 3.

The WiCell Research Institute, the non-profit organization that conducts and supports stem-cell research in Wisconsin in partnership with UW-Madison researchers, is expected to expand its work with a broader scientific community.

With more students needing remedial math and English classes upon entering college, this editorial says it is time for Wisconsin to re-evaluate the quality of the education it provides students.
