Wisconsin has an opportunity for "brain gain" by participating in the Midwest Student Exchange Program; Wisconsin students can attend out-of-state universities at a reduced rate, and residents from partner states can attend some UW System campuses at a similarly reduced rate.

On Campus

"Grant will help keep nanotech students here," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Aug. 31.

UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout and Chippewa Valley Technical College received a grant from the National Science Foundation that would help the schools expand the region's nanotechnology industry and bring new jobs to the area.

The Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce and Forward Janesville need only raise $100,000 more to have the proper funding for an engineering program and building at UW-Rock County.

UW-Green Bay's FOCUS program is designed to better acquaint incoming freshmen with the campus to ease the transition from high school, and living at home, to college and living by themselves.

An editorial encouraging UW-Madison's stem-cell researchers to stay the course amid claims of alternative methods of stem-cell production.

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities officials said a newly implemented ban on alcohol in all but one of the campus's residence halls will send a message to students about the campus's expectations.

"Education Department mined hundreds of students' records as part of FBI antiterrorist operation," Chronicle of Higher Education, Aug. 31.

Officials from the U.S. Department of Education said fewer than 1,000 students' names were checked as part of an FBI operation under which the Department of Education gave federal investigators the records of students who applied for federal financial aid programs.
