Ensuring access to higher education for all interested students should be the responsibility of the state, according to this editorial regarding a proposed pilot program at UW-La Crosse that would use additional revenue to grow student enrollment and fund financial aid programs.

"Magazine: UW-Madison is LGBT-friendly school," Channel3000.com, Aug. 22.

The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students recently ranked UW-Madison among the top colleges and universities for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, listing the school's LGBT Campus Center among its valuable programs.

An editorial criticizing state Rep. Steve Nass for his repeated attacks on the UW System, its campuses and affiliated organizations.

"School district hopes to launch online charter school," Stevens Point Journal, Aug. 22.

The Stevens Point Area School District hopes to create an online charter school that would collaborate with UW-Stevens Point's Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education and Global Environmental Management Education Center to help students to focus on much-needed math and science courses.

"Dairy academy may be coming to Marathon County," Wisconsin Ag. Connection, Aug. 21.

A proposed two-year dairy academy with classes from UW-Marathon County, UW-River Falls and UW-Madison would allow students to transfer credits and pursue a four-year college degree.

"Douglas Co. chair criticizes Ozaukee board," Wisconsin Public Radio, Aug. 21.

The chairman of Douglas County's board is considering a resolution supporting the county's UW-Extension program to protest Ozaukee County's recent move to cut its Extension budget over a UW-Madison hiring decision.
