Three members of the UW System Office of the President will depart as the office restructures communications and external relations functions.

The new "Living and Learning Center" will be the first residence hall at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County and could be open as early as 2008.

"Longtime lawyer for UW to retire," Capital Times, May 17.

Melany Stinson Newby, vice chancellor for legal and executive affairs at UW-Madison, will retire at the end of May.

"University squared: City approves $3 million TIF for major campus project," Capital Times, May 17.

The Madison city council has agreed to support a construction project that includes a UW office tower, a private student residence, and retail space.

State

"Bill would let veterans go to state public colleges for free," Wisconsin State Journal, May 18.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle plans to sign a bill that would provide a full waiver of tuition costs at UW System schools for qualified military veterans, but no money has been set aside yet to fund the bill.
