Ten construction projects worth about $600 million will be underway on the UW-Madison campus one year from now, all part of the UW-Madison Master Plan to build new facilities and add more campus green space.

The UW-La Crosse Faculty Senate said Provost Elizabeth Hitch should have consulted the campus's shared governance policy before appointing an interim dean of the College of Science and Health.

UW-Madison officials said because they have accepted federal resources intended for research, they have an obligation to investigate the use of such funds by faculty; one campus researcher facing allegations of misconduct resigned earlier this year.

Tom Hefty, outgoing president of the Waukesha County Economic Development Corp., said recent job-loss trends in the Milwaukee area should spur leaders to invest in education and research in order to bolster that region's economy.
