"Faculty voice objections to regent discipline plan," Daily Cardinal, April 18.

Faculty from several UW campuses have shared concerns about a proposal from the Board of Regents' Committee Regarding Faculty/Academic Staff Disciplinary Process, including questions about meeting the public's trust, the appropriateness of suspending personnel without pay, and how officials might define "criminal misconduct; Regents plan further discussion and will consider alternative suggestions.

"Give research center unconditional OK," Editorial, Wisconsin State Journal, April 17.

An editorial urging approval of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on the UW-Madison campus as a way to forge valuable connections between university research, state needs, and the private sector.

"UWO reports second suspected mumps cases," Oshkosh Northwestern, April 18.

While suspected cases of mumps in college students have not been confirmed, UW-Oshkosh hopes to keep the campus informed by working with community health agencies.

"Officials competing with private colleges," The Racquet (UW-La Crosse), April 10.

Chancellor Doug Hastad says UW-La Crosse's outstanding reputation has it competing with private colleges to attract students, making facility upgrades and tuition-based financial aid plans important tools for campus growth amid state budget cuts.

"Number of lower-income students in UW schools on decline," The Spectator (UW-Eau Claire), April 13.

Reports find that fewer students from lower-income families are attending UW System campuses; yet challenges, like the proposed Taxpayer Protection Amendment, could keep UW from increasing college access and aspirations among students and families.

"Three doctoral programs added," UWM Post, April 5.

Having added three doctoral programs in recent years, UW-Milwaukee is developing additional proposals for doctoral programs, including microbiology, freshwater and earth sciences, and Africology, which can help the campus' efforts to increase its research presence and capacity.

"TPA meeting raises concerns from campus, community," Student Voice (UW-River Falls), April 14.

Students, faculty and academic staff voiced strong objection to the proposed Taxpayer Protection Amendment at a UW-River Falls hearing, where guests included Sen. Sheila Harsdorf and Rep. Kitty Rhoades.

"Tax Amendment could impede education," Editorial, Royal Purple (UW-Whitewater), April 12.

An editorial noting that the proposed Taxpayer Protection Amendment would fundamentally weaken education in Wisconsin, and would mean more cuts to the university at a time when students need more tuition assistance than ever before.

"Green goes for anti-tax message," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 18.

A comparison of tax stances of Gov. Jim Doyle and gubernatorial candidate U.S. Rep. Mark Green notes that freezing the UW System budget as utility costs increase would amount to major cuts for the university.
