UW-Madison officials said the new research facilities being constructed on campus will allow it to remain atop the research ladder among universities nationwide.

Despite a recommendation to overturn UW-Madison's reprimand of administrator Paul Barrows, campus officials said Chancellor John Wiley's choice to remove Barrows from his previous vice chancellor position cannot be appealed, as Barrows served at the pleasure of Wiley; UW System officials said they would leave the decision up to UW-Madison Provost Patrick Farrell.
