Regent Judy Crain said it is important that higher education opportunities are available and affordable for everyone who seeks them.

A UW System review suggests that consolidating campus food-service contracts could not only negatively impact the quality of meals, but also potentially cause the university to lose money if fewer students eat at university food-service locations.

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor appointee Brian Levin-Stankevich said the best thing his and other UW System campuses can do to maintain their world-class reputations is show how much higher education positively impacts Wisconsin's economy.

"Jones resigns his position on UW-Whitewater faculty," Associated Press, April 5.

Former UW-Whitewater dean Lee Jones resigned from his faculty position, citing "blatant racism and constant harassment;" UW-Whitewater Chancellor Martha Saunders said racism played no role in Jones's dismissal from his dean position.

Wisconsin Union officials said a "no" vote on a student referendum that would have allowed for historical renovations for Memorial Union and Union South will prevent updates to the facilities.

Mike Nelson, who will soon retire as dean of the UW-La Crosse College of Science and Health, said he would have postponed his departure if it was not for some state officials' lack of support for higher education in Wisconsin.
