UW-Madison officials said without the financial help of private foundations, the campus would not be able to continue to conduct the sort of research that has made it renowned.
State
"Proposal to limit UW salaries fails," Badger Herald, March 8.
UW System officials and some state legislators said a proposal to limit the salaries of UW System senior administrators would further reduce the competitive edge the university has in attracting and retaining talented leaders.
"Oracle will get state contract," Wisconsin State Journal, March 8.
State officials said a new integrated approach to administrative functions will lower state costs and save taxpayers money.

"8 colleges sign on to antisweatshop proposal, with caveats over possible antitrust violations," Chronicle of Higher Education, March 8.
UW-Madison officials said while they support the notion that factories producing logo apparel should provide employees with living wages and opportunities to unionize, they fear that shutting out factories that do not would place the university in violation of antitrust laws.
