UW-Madison received nearly $600 million in donations, gifts and grants in 2005, the second-largest amount among all American colleges and universities. Such donations bolster the campus's research agenda, among other projects.

UW officials said its UW-Madison Connections Program, under which students can take two years of classes at a UW Colleges campus before finishing their degree at the state's flagship university, is a great way for students to use state resources to their advantage.
