"Progress report due on UW campus merger plan," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Jan. 26.

A steering group of UW officials investigating the educational needs of the Waukesha area will soon report on the information gathered so far.

A committee reviewing UW policy on the removal of employees convicted of serious crimes said they would take into account any ties between the crime and its potential impact on the university.

On Campus

"UWM to ask state for funds," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Jan. 26.

In his State of the University address, UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Carlos Santiago announced plans to raise $300 million from private and public sources to upgrade the school's research agenda and raise the standard of living in the city.

A column with several suggestions about qualities the ideal chancellor of UW-Eau Claire should possess.

"Cool the rhetoric," Editorial, River Falls Journal, Jan. 26.

An editorial urging the rational, unbiased completion of a state look into UW-River Falls' role in allowing an organization to set up an e-mail list-serve on one of its computers. The list-serve was promptly taken down after complaints surfaced.

"UWO puts Sports Complex on two-minute drill," Oshkosh Northwestern, Jan. 27.

UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Richard Wells said he and other campus officials are stepping up efforts to complete the fund raising for the campus Sports Complex.

State

"Lawton wants increased college funding," Capital Times, Jan. 26.

Calling for more money to go to higher education in Wisconsin, Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton said a college education is crucial, not only for people in societies, but for the state's economy as well.

"DOA official defends meeting on travel," WKOW-TV, Jan. 26.

UW officials say the university's concerns about a process to award a travel contract were communicated to the state.

"Students face daunting price of higher ed," Appleton Post-Crescent, Jan. 26.

With the price of higher education constantly rising, students seek to offset costs with financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
