PK-16 Partnerships and Initiatives - UW System
The PK-16 program of the University of Wisconsin System was created as a collaborative venture among the 13 UW institutions that prepare educators (teachers, administrators, and pupil personnel). Faculty and administrators from Education and Letters and Sciences work in partnership with professionals from UW System Administration, UW Colleges and Extension, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. All serve in their respective roles to support this partnership and the PK-16 program.
While there are several projects within the PK-16 program, the common focus that binds them together is an exploration of effective practice related to the areas of new teacher recruitment, retention, and preparation for licensure. The activities associated with the various projects are designed to document and more fully understand the relationship between teacher preparation, teacher practice, and student learning. The lessons learned from this work will direct ongoing program reform efforts across the UW System and enable its educators to more effectively prepare all learners for the 21st Century.

PK-16 Teacher Education Quality, Recruitment and Retention
With an emphasis on higher education and PK-12 schools as components of an interdependent educational system, we share in the responsibility to ensure the components work together for the educational benefit of students and in the support of rigorous academic standards. There are three components to the PK-16 program operating within the Office of Academic, Faculty, and Global Programs at UW System Administration.
These components are as follows:
The Teacher Recruitment and Retention Initiative, participating in a Statewide network of institutions with dedicated resources engaging with students daily to ensure their success.
The Teacher Quality Initiative, an exploration of quality issues related to teacher preparation.
The Wisconsin Improving Teacher Quality, federally funded Wisconsin ESEA Improving Teacher Quality (WEITQ) Grants.
The Office of Academic and Student Affairs is committed to engaging in these activities collaboratively with our educational partners in Wisconsin such as the Department of Public Instruction, the Wisconsin Technical College System, the TEACH (Technology for Educational Achievement) Board, private colleges and universities, educational associations, and faculty and administrators from PK-12 schools throughout the state.
